A little over a month ago, I received an email from one of the co-founders of a company called Khunu, which makes high end yak wool adventure-wear sweaters. The co-founder was cordially introducing himself and telling a little about his company. I checked out their website and was very impressed. There have been numerous people the past 10 or 15 years who have been brainstorming different ideas for business that involves using yak wool. The guys at Khunu, in my opinion, have come up with a great way of using the resources that Tibetan nomads have to make a top quality product. Their business has been generating quite a bit of buzz the past few months, which I am sure will continue as they become more well known.
The other day I received The Old Monk, one of the 3 styles of sweaters that Khunu produces. I was quite excited when I received it and was not disappointed when I opened the box. It is an incredibly soft sweater that fit me well and looked fantastic. It looked so nice that I wore it to a wedding the next day. Nearly everyone I saw complimented me on the sweater. Unlike other wool sweaters that I own, the Khunu sweater was very comfortable and didn't itch. Each year I spend a considerable amount of time in the Himalaya's in temperatures below -15C/ 5F. Without a doubt, my Khunu sweater will be a necessity for my next winter expedition across the remote regions of Tibetan Plateau.
Are you looking for quality outdoor adventure-wear? Go to the Khunu site and order yours. Not only is this a top quality product, but proceeds from each sale go back to the nomadic communities from where the wool is obtained. Having lived in Tibet for over 8 years, I can honestly say that Khunu products will keep you warm in any cold weather environment.
